After a 3-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, the CanGO medical team will be returning to Guyana to provide healthcare to the mostly indigenous peoples in the interior of the country. The dates of the Mission are March 23 to April 3. The focus of this mission will be VIA testing, Developmental Disorders, Pediatrics and Pulmonology. In preparation for this mission, three directors, i.e., Dr. Clare Mitchell (Medical Director), Conrad Joseph (member-at-large) and Yvonne Triesman (President), travelled to Guyana in May 2022 to meet with officials at the Ministries of Public Health, Foreign Affairs and Indigenous Peoples Affairs. They also visited Kwakwani (Region 10), Warakaba and Akawini (Region 2).
On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, Honourable Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Public Health, met with three Directors of the Canada-Guyana Outreach Mission (CanGO), a diaspora medical mission comprising medical professionals from Canada and the United States who have been conducting medical outreach missions in Guyana since 2009. Also present at the meeting were the Ministry’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Narine Singh, and Deputy Director of Regional and Clinical Services, Dr Veronica Griffith. The CanGO team included Mrs. Yvonne Triesman, President, Dr. Clare Mitchell, Medical Director, and Mr. Conrad Joseph, Member-at-Large. The visiting team discussed their plans for the 2022 mission scheduled in November.
